american style yard sale

Has anyone either held or been to an american style yard or garage sale in UK.I have done a few car boot sales but the setting up,packing up and travelling is a big hassle.I would love to be able to just keep the stuff boxed up in my front porch and set it up on the driveway in nicer weather.
Any thoughts?
Its probably against one of our many local bylaws to have a yard sale, there seem to be bylaws for every occassion.I bet my council would try to make me pay for a street traders licence or apply for an events licence:rolleyes: .
Any advice welcome.

I went to a garage sale last summer. They put notices on lamp posts etc. Don't know if it breaks any bylaws or not. Quite a few people there, everything priced to sell.

Me and Hubby love these! Most people advertise them in the local paper or we have spotted a few on the way back from boot sales. Never done one but was thinking about it in summer, only problem is we live in a village so not much passing trade. If you live on a main road your quids in.

  • Hi there, i`m a newby :D and I have big teeth just like greenface over there!!
Seriously tho I`ve done many a car boot sale over the years and always came home feeling pretty despondent. The vultures would descend:eek: and every time I would say the same thing...Neverever again!! But it`s just like childbirth you soon forget the pain!! Only joking all you mums out there!! Anyway where was I? Yep the barefaced cheek of bootbuyers is truly unbelievable. I`ve had a lady wanting my baby clothes, but get this, she didn`t want to pay, oh no insisted I take her mothercare vouchers as payment  The sarcasm went right over her head. Sent her off with a flea in her ear. Another time a woman was tugging at the cover I had on my table? Umm it`s not for sale lady  derr!! Another woman bought a tricycle, you know the one`s with the long handle you push your little ones along. Explained and showed her how EASY it is to take the handle off. Merrily went on her way, some time later her son (about 6) shyly came up to me and said "My mum wants her money back,(£1.50) she`s changed her mind?" I asked him nicely I might add, "Please let me speak with your mummy" She flew round the corner shouting how dare I make her son cry:confused: I flipping did not and I had witnesses. No I did not give her the money back!! Since seen the lady, her son goes to my daughter`s school :p . Has anyone got a funny or maddning stories to tell? Anyway i`ve got that off my chest and my question was " Has anyone had a sort of bootsale indoors?" I`ve got a newly decorated utility room with a secondary front door, so there would`nt be a prob with people coming through the house. Anyone? would love to here, or if people would go to a house one. I`m selling the usual carboot sale stuff. For my 1st time that was a biggy. ThankQQ for reading.
