Roboform: Opinions of, or prefered alternatives.

I have been considering using roboform, after having a brief look at ther web site, I was put of slightly by the level of detail. I am hoping to get opinions of roboform users on the software, and of people who use alternative software.

I like the idea of having the password manager and the auto form fill ( sounds very helpfull)

PS does this software make my PC anymore vulnerable, i.e. a file full of passwords ( sounds like a jackpot for hackers).

I have seen roboform on offer of two for $40, therefore £20 ish for 2, a tenner each. I would happily pay this for the full version, with no problems with updates, and free email help if needed.

All help most appreciated :D

if u got hacked i dont think the hacker will bother with the file where all the pws and user names (roboform file) are hacking u ,. they'll simply run a keylogger when u log in too ur "sites" and maybe safe the "roboform file" and try cracking it later,.

anyways havent heard nothing bad about roboform and i heard its "FREE for personal use" so why would u want to buy it ?
  • According to the roboform website after the free 30 day trial the software is limited to 10 passcards which I think relates to passwords to automatically log into ( I think this means only 10 passwords can be stored also). There are other limitations such as the number of references ( three I think) that can be used to autofill. There are other limitations as well after the 30 day trial.

I`m hoping to be able to hear the opinions of roboform users. Thanks Justpaper.

I think it's an excellent program. If your using firefox then there isn't any other choice as far as I'm concerned (although some alternatives offer limited functionality in firefox). If your using IE then you have more options although i can't remember them off hand. Finally if your using Opera or other browsers then your options are very limited unless the browser is based on the IE engine.

    Check this review of roboform:

  • I use a free program called password safe. Single strong encrypted password opens up the file where u can store your usernames and passwords. I use its password generator as it is alphanumeric and symbols. Just cut and paste into forms.

I used to use the free version of Roboform and found that the limitation to 10 passcards was too few for me. So I changed to Handy Password, which does exactly what I want:

The program is free, although I'm not sure whether it has a form filler like Roboform has for personal details (name, address, email etc.). I haven't needed to use this so haven't investigated it.

Use is via a toolbar, so it doesn't prompt you with sometimes annoying pop-ups to fill forms. One click on the icon does it.

Roboform is very good and stores the details you enter using a 256bit 3DES key, which is virtually impossible to crack.
