Old ISP Programmes causing problems!

I get a pop up appearing on my screen 'internet explorer has encountered a problem and will have to close' etc etc. But then it doesnt close. I have AOL and Fast 4 installed on my computor (I'm now using Virgin) does anyone know if this message might relate to one of these ex-services? I cant find the components of these old programmes on my computor so I can delete them and see if that gets rid of the messages. can anyone offer me any advice?
I've made my debts bite-size too depressing to look at all at once so am handling them one at a time - first up Graduate Loan £1720 paid off! only £280 to go!!!

I had to instal NTL ISP on a PC which previously had AOL installed. It was a nightmare to try and get all the AOL stuff off it and it would not let me instal NTL while it was still on there. I ended up reformatting the hard drive to ensure I got rid of all AOL's cr*p.

Try alared's suggestion first. I didn't try ccleaner as I was so peed off with it I decided to start again from scratch. Like you say, AOL hide some of its files and don't erase them when you uninstal their software. Very naughty!!
