What is the point of claiming back the cost of looking at your credit file? The chances are that people who have access to it pay monthly as a sub not a one off charge.

Its even still free for 30 days to look at your credit report online if you are not signed up! So saying that is totally pointless.

ChickenLegs.... You are assuming what people do....

I do not pay monthly to check my file. Never ever!!! That is not money saving, thats wasting money! I send them a letter requesting a copy every 6 months at a cost of £2 per pop!

I used up my free report 3 years ago and each time I try to check the systems/websites it realises I was there before and want me to pay out. No way!!!! I am a money saver!

Hence there are a number of people like me.

To calm the nerves and the worry and stress of thinking something bad has happened to their credit, some people had to pay for a quick look as they are not paying monthly and already used up their free check.

And because of that I would try to claim it back, if it had not been for the Dodgy Letter from EGG, they would not have incurred the cost of having to check their credit file. Hence try to claim it back. I would!

I sent Egg an email on Saturday to express my anger about having my card cancelled and informing them that I would be removing my savings. This is the reply I have received. As you can see they are now saying that they have considered account use but they paid no attention to my plan to remove my savings.

Following our acquisition by Citi, we've undertaken an extensive review of the risk profile of all of our card customers at Egg. As part of this review we've considered your account history and card usage activity together with a check on your overall situation with credit reference agencies.

Following this review we've decided to end your Credit agreement with us. I'm sorry if this has caused you disappointment.

Your credit rating won't be negatively affected providing you continue to maintain your minimum contractual payments.

    Thanks for your message.

A "quick look" is expensive though isn't it? Egg may offer something, eg £2 for a paper report or a fiver credit to the account, but they may refuse the £16 or whatever an instant online report is because you didn't mitigate your costs.

Don't jump on me...I'm just introducing something for discussion. :)

So, Are they now denying they ever said this? :-

The 161,000 customers whose cards are being withdrawn had had a deteriorating credit profile since they signed up, according to Egg spokeswoman Rachel Roe.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • There seem to be a lot of Egg trolls posting to this thread and they keep thanking each other for their 'useful' posts  .

Of course it is possible that they are all the same person ;)

    I don't think we'll hear from Rachel again!! :T

If you re read all of their statements with the knowledge that "Risk" means the risk of them not making lots of profit from you, then it all begins to make a lot more sense.

As far as I am concerned the outcome I had hoped for has largely been achieved.

I never wanted to have my credit card reinstated as I am more than happy to have no further dealings with the Egg Credit Card business and in relation to this I have no desire to sue or seek financial redress from them. In my eyes they're a tainted business and any further contact can only be corrosive.

My objection was the initial porttrayal of us all as bad customers. A quick Google news search reveals that the tide has turned against Egg in this matter, although there are still a few stories which continue the lie that those effected have either missed payments or exceeded their credit limits. However now the spotlight has been shone onto their business practice and is under investigation the truth will out eventually.

There will always be those that deny that any blame be attached to Egg in this matter. Such deniers will only have themselves to look to if they ever have similar injutices befall them at some point in the future. To the rest of the supportive community on here I wish you all good health, wealth and hapiness in the future.

    Regards

    David

I am grateful to EGG for:

    1. Reminding me that when it comes to financial services the Banks have us all by the B*&ls and I must not be lulled into a sense of security by the easy lending of the past few years. It's going to get tough and as always in those times "Cash is King".

    2. Leading me to this site. I intend to use it fully in the future.

BTW I've just been phoned by a journalist from a large radio station, She has arranged an interview after which we had a good chat. She has an EGG savings account but is considering moving it. They are getting lots of reaction.

That secure message you've received is a template set up to answer any query sent in to them about the closures. It was written and added to the system before the letters arrived with customers.

As I work for Egg I personally wouldn't want my name broadcast across the internet. Fair enough if I was in the public eye but that person is just replying to your message and will be under the assumption that their name will only be seen by you, so I really don't think it's fair that you've included the name on here.

We are all relatively anonymous on here but now that person isn't, it's not really necessary to include their name.

I take your point about displaying the name of staff member but as you also pointed out it is a standard reply which could equally have been signed Humpty Dumpty for the good it could have done.
