Getting Wallpapers On My PC

I run windows 98 and have had wallpapers before. I used to right click on the picture then choose 'Set as Wallpaper' and it was fine. Now when I right click my choices are set as desktop or set as background. When I click set as background my wallpaper is so stretched on the screen you can't see it. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong. If I go into Display the picture looks normal there but it doesn't look right on my screen. I know theres probably a very simple reason but I'm not techie minded at all. Thanks.

Hi on that setting but the picture is still fuzzy. Can't understand where my button 'Set as Wallpaper' has gone either.

I don't know about the settings in '98

Whatever the system, it's usually better to resize a picture to your screen size berfore you set it as wallpaper

stretching wallpaper can slow down your pc when you move around icons etc

If you don't have a paint program irfanview is very quick to download and easy to use - and lots of really easy image enhancements to choose from

Don't you have options whether to "stretch" "centre" or "tile" in the "change the desktop background" section.

Yes I do and I normally use Stretch so it fits the whole screen but all the wallpapers I choose are just too fuzzy and overstretched. If I tile or centre its fine. Just wondered what I was doing wrong as this did not used to happen.

you are taking a small picture and stretching the pixels you will have to use a digital imaging programme to first resize and the programme should have the ability to allow you to set any picture as wall paper microsoft digital image pro 7.0 is one that comes to mind hope this helps good luck caf

You wont be able to get a small size picture and make it look good!!!!! It has to be a big size in the first place and then you ajust it.
A small picture on the desktop will look awful becouse the pixels will look massive.

depends on the picture format, I think win 98 can only handle Bitmaps or JPEGS (with active desktop)

    I may be wrong
