Joint Account Name removal problem

Hi,
Apologies if this has already been covered, but after searching I couldnt find the exact same issue.
I split with my partner (now ex) Oct 07. We have a joint account with the Halifax. Current, with cash cards. O/Draft limit of £1500. In Oct with both went into the Account Branch, explained that we both wished to remove My name from the account (first name) leaving the account in use for him. They said this was fine, we both signed the form, I handed over my cheque book and card and we left. Since then-
The post tonight has brought details that a stop is on the account with a demand for immediate payment of the £600 to bring it within the Odraft limit is required. Also detrimental effect on my credit rating.
I lothe to pay the odraft off as I'm the one with the debt which we have been left with (£41,000) and with no renumeration from himself I am struggling already. Since leaving the only place to at least fight the debt is back with my parents.
Has anyone else had this problem and how have they managed to deal with it and clear thier name?
Any help is very much appreciated, as I am not only coming to terms with the debt mountain, but trying to close this out as well.:o

- he continues to use the account, past the overdraft (not at £2100 - £600 over the Odraft)
- using the switch service (accumulating £35 charges every time)
- non paid DD's, accumulating in more charges (£35 a time)
- overdraft interest and Odraft charges

The problem seems to be that his credit profile does not seem to enable Halifax to take your name off the account.
If this is the case then they will not do it.
Go into the Halifax and tell them that there is a dispute and that you want the account blocked.
It won't solve the problem of the o/d balance but will crystallize the issue and prevent your ex from using the account.
You will then both need to agree a strategy to repay and close the account.0 -
Thanks very much, will get back to Hx & suggest this0
