Is attending a gay event when you are off sick with m.e. grounds for dismissal fair?

"if you were having a good day why didn't you go into work" (sorry can't quote, tried twice gremlins in the system

I'm not totally sure this is possible tbh  . I know when I was once off with a pregnancy related illness (don't know if that makes a difference). I asked my manager if I could come in and she checked with HR who said I couldn't unless I went to GP's first and got signed back fit for work, as otherwise the company were not insured for me. If this is correct/still the case you would have to get a GP appointment first before going back.

I was dismissed by my employer without notification and he has told the employment tribunal that I was dismissed for my conduct which was attending a gay event to watch a parade on one of my good days while sufferng M.E. He says that this is fair dismissal. What do you think?

Yes, I was going to say the same. hubby was off work with a chest infection and felt better so went back to work a day early but they sent him straight home again as he was not covered under their Insurance as he was signed off sick. If the doctor has given a sick note for ME then I would guess the doctor has a reason for this but unless the person has been given a back to work certificate the employee should not even be on company premises. With a condition such as ME it would be impossible to know what days were going to be good or bad in advance.

Considering the alleged actions of the employer so far (see the post history) it wouldn't surprise me if the OP is trying to ascribe some kind of homophobia here. Either the OP is a fantasist or the employers (if the same one) genuinely are nasty pieces of work. Either way there's a lot more to this than just the original post.

Some coincidence, the OP and their husband BOTH suffering from ME??? (see OP's posting history)

AND both are taking their employers to tribunal....

This is either a wind up or the OP is 'in need of help' (Britney Syndrome)...

They could just be using the same account? But yes, it would be more helpful if they clarified! x

If they were homophobic, how did they spot him at a gay march? I would have thought homophobes would stay away from such events.

Really the OP is a bit too vague and this really depends on the context in which this happened.

Maybe they were spotted sporting a bright pink lycra thong and nothing else, belting out YMCA and dancing on the float at the head of the parade ... on the TV News.
