Hi There
Am a little baffled and confused...doesnt take much
DH has got a part-time place on an Architecture BA degree. Will take 4 years one day a week, rather than 3 years and 3-4 days a week. He's been wanting to do this for years but is my FT carer and Uni has only just introduced the part-time route-so never been viable before.
Basically, we have gone onto Income Support in the past 4 weeks and understand that if he takes out the £500 loan available to part-time students-Income Support will count this as income-even though we will have to pay it back when he finishes
As we understand it, DH will be entitled to upto £575 towards fees then another £250 course grant? The 1st year course fees are around £900 so we will be short, but can put it on the credit card if needed.
I have downloaded a form PTG1 and DH has started filling it in. Is this the correct form to apply for help towards course fees and the course grant, as there are some questions for the student loans company-and we DON'T want the £500 loan? Or do the student loans send the funds for the grant/course fees to the University
We really dont have a clue...can anyone please help? I have his acceptance letter, birth certificate etc all ready to go, but want to make sure that Im filling in the correct forms. Our local LEA dont have the part-time forms in yet-so thought Id look on internet.
I dont know how we are going to afford the books etc, but we will get there.
Thanks in advance.

The student loan forms (the ones from the LEA) include loan, and student fees assessment. You dont have to take the loan, but put all the details on it, and the course fees automatically get paid to the Uni, all you have to do is make sure you dont lose the entitlement form they give you (and they give you two) because one will need to be handed in to the finance office at the beginning of the course.
Secondly - all the information he will need to know will be given in the induction the Uni usually always holds for new students, and is usually organised by the department, who will write in advance and tell you when registration is. This is when you go in, pick up your timetable, pick up student loan cheques (if applicable) and get told when induction lecture is (if not been told before)
Another thing to note - dont forget to apply EVERY YEAR for student fees entitlement - I know its a hassle, but it is for one year only, it needs to be done every year. The forms should automatically be sent to you around easter, and id advise getting them in early to beat the rush, incase anything goes wrong, and incase you forget later on!
