wires not chased into wall - help needed

have had our house rewired and the job has been spot on. 1 question though. in the kitchen they have installed the sockets/cooker point etc. the wires are then chased in for about a foot and then come out of the wall and loop round to the next socket.
The exposed wire will all be covered by the kitchen units so cosmetically will not be seen.
is this 1) legal and safe and 2)normal and ok

I generally take the cable down below the floor and back up a little further over- then all cables are vertical and channelled in.
The other option I have is to channel down below the worktop by a good bit and run mini trunking horizontally where it will be hidden. This is more likely in houses where concrete floors prevail.
I don't do the 'rough' route, but as long as the cables are clipped there is nothing technically wrong. Just looks a bit poor.
This is why some electricians charge £350-£450 for a full kitchen and others charge £200-£350. You generally get what you pay for.baldly going on...0 -
