Help your child to pass exams for FREE

With the exam season only three and a bit months away, it is worth thinking about how to start encouraging a bit of revision. Some students will even be sitting modular exams in about six weeks. It seems that you can spend a fortune trying to kick our kids through to passing exams (hence the huge walls of revision guides in WH Smiths), but there are some things that do not cost any money. I have suggested some below. Does anybody else have any ideas?

Free education websites...

www.what2learn.com - hundreds of free learning games, your child's scores will also be recorded so you can see what they have been doing!
www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ - loads more free stuff
www.s-cool.co.uk - a popular revision website

Get free past exam papers and mark schemes...
You can get these direct from the exam boards - you just have to work out their rather complicated navigation systems...
www.aqa.org.uk
www.edexcel.org.uk
www.ocr.org.uk

Find out what your child's school is providing
Many schools will be running extra revision sessions after school and even in the upcoming half term holidays. Your child may not actually tell you about these! A quick phone call to your child's tutor or head of year may reveal a whole world of additional and FREE support! Bearing in mind that hiring a tutor for an hour costs £30-£50 you would be crazy not to take full advantage of this additional support.

Anybody got any other ideas?

  • This is an odd one. On the one hand, there is help here, but it seems to look like spam. Could the OP make things clearer about their role here?

  • It's probably so the spam is hidden in 'helpful' advice, which isn't *that* helpful - the OP's website is the only one that you can't find in about two seconds with Google ...

    http://businessstudiesonline.co.uk/

    https://www.mymaths.co.uk
https://www.samlearning.com These two are password protected. Most likely the school will give you access to it if you are registered. (A search on Google will probably bring up the results)
  • Everything you want is here....

www.primaryresources.co.uk is a great site too, aimed at teachers but lots of worksheets etc.
  • Hi

One site that I have signed up for which is good is 11+ swot: http://www.11plusswot.co.uk/ It is not free, but there are different levels of membership. You can take online versions of the 11+ papers. I thought it might be a bit more fun for my son to do the test online.

I also recommend sam learning www.samlearning.com. My eldest son has it through school. My youngest son's school hasn't signed up, so I am debating whether it's worth paying the fee (I think it is £99 for 1 year) for him.

Also, if you have virgin broadband and have 'broadband extras' (you need to have the higher speed connection to get it for free) you get espresso www.espresso.co.uk which is very good, which lots of different subject materials. They also have the student version of the encyclopaedia Britannica.

Mintymoneysaver - you are a star! https://www.satspapers.co.uk is just the job. I've been using the primary resources site for years now. Another good one is https://www.firstschoolyears.co.uk.

Thanks everyone else for your links too - some I haven't yet come across so will check out.

    Thanks again - Karen

    Hi all
My son is sitting his GCSE's and i wondered if anyone knows where he can download a free revision timetable? I think that if he can tick off revised days/subjects that it will be such a good incentive for him to keep at it - little and often being the motto!!!!
    many thanks
