House Insurance - staying with the same provider

It's that time of year again when the house insurance is up for renewal and I have my quote through from my current insurance provider. This quote is far from competitive, but somebody made a point that has me a bit concerned.
I was advised that it is not a good idea to keep changing insurance companies for house insurance because if a problem such as subsidence occurs your current provider may try and say that the problem started prior to them providing cover and this may result in a lengthy drawn out process to make a claim.
Does anybody have any advice on this, or can anybody suggest an insurance company that offers competitive cover, but doesn't offer a great introductory offer then hike their prices to silly levels in subsequent year?
Thanks

Well, as far as the subsidence goes, that would be for your current insurer to sort out with the previous insurer - not your concern, they're the ones who you have the policy with when you make the claim. Whether or not they attempt to recover that cost from a previous insurer is their lookout.
Yes, there are some companies that do offer an introductory rate, but you could take that for the year and then leave.
But in general, always go through all the details of your policy with a fine tooth comb for any changes in circumstance that the insurer may not have on their systems - eg:
Have you had any additional security added to your home? Or changed windows/doors etc
Have you and your partner still got the same occupation as on the previous policy - this is a biggie especially if either of you is a childminder
Do you still need the same cover as the previous year? Has the insurer increased the cover on the contents beyond what you actually need?
Are there any other policies with a different excess that could be cheaper???
Also, ALWAYS ring them about a week before the renewal date and see if the quote in the renewal is stil the cheapest quote they can offer you, as things do change quite rapidly in insurance.
i hope this helps.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
The ABI subs agreement is quite clear-
Within 8 weeks of start of policy = Old insurer
Between 8weeks and one year = 50/50
Over one year = New insurer
Its not something I would would overly worry about.0 -
