I want to buy a leather sofa - advice needed

Im wanting to buy a leather sofa for my lounge and unsure what to buy and would welcome some advice.
I'm confused by the type of leather, the grain, the categories (10, 15. 25). I don't have any pets so no worries about it being scratched by claws but want something that is fairly easy to maintain, resistant to stains and continues to reasonably resemble what it looked like it was when I bought it rather than getting all creased and haggard looking!
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I am in the same boat Helen, I am looking for (2) 2-seater Leather Sofas and have no idea what to buy or how much it is likely to cost. I will watch this thread with interest, maybe whoever helps you out with advice can help me too.~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0

What sort of price would I be looking at for 2 x 2-seaters? Preferably in a brown leather...need to see if I can afford what I want lol ~What you send out comes back to thee thricefold!~~0

Seen some sofas today and prices range from £599 (170cm wide), £699 (210cm wide) to £1695 (177cm wide) and £1825 (201cm wide) - that's two sizes of sofa in two different ranges. Problem is, I like them both but different leathers and unsure about wear etc.
These prices were from a reputable local shop and not large retail chains from whom I suspect the quality of goods. Where do u live Ember? There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0 -
I have also been after a leather sofa for a while and managed to get an absolute bargain a couple of weeks ago.
I didn't want to spend a fortune as I have 3 cats, a dog and a 2 year old son.
We live in North Wales and Christie Tyler, who make furniture for M&S, have a factory and factory shop in Greenfield near Holywell. They also have a customer returns shop where you can pick up some absolute bargains.
Some of the stuff is obviously "used" but we picked up an M&S Abbey Leather 2 Seater, RRP £1299 for £120! They charged £30 to deliver it and it has a very small scuff on one of the arms but who cares for that price!Hopeless by name, hopeless by nature.0 -

Have you had a look in Barker & Stonehouse? They have some beautiful quality stuff. Couple of stores in Yorkshire and a sale on at the moment. Would recomment going for aniline leather rather than the cheapo split leathers if you want it to age well.

not sure if you have a land of leather showroom near you but they are definately worth considering.... i got mine last year for £899 for a three seater and two seater..all the seats recline apart from the middle seat on the three seater...not a bad price considering the leather is of a outstanding quality...needless to say being a ivory colour i opted for there five year stain removal and repair guarantee which also includes a free sofa cleaning service to be used with in one year of purchasing...take a look on what they have on offer... though i did find my deal at the time in one of the sunday papers..

is World of Leather still around?
we got our 3 seater sofa there in 1989 and we're still using it ! now that's 5 of us various dogs and 3 cats. admittedly it does look rather tatty but then we're been really tough on it.:)
spent £200 on repairs last year, reckon the sofa will keep going few more years till our youngest has passed the jumping on the furniture stage :j
we're looking to get an additional 2 seater soon too, so interested to hear about what the various grades mean. I'm hoping to pick up a 2nd hand bargain on ebay.
