A few questions

Hi everyone,
Ive got a few questions I would apprciate answered to help me in my money saving.
Can I freeze fuit? Reason I ask this is I usually throw out alot of fruit mainly applies, oranges, plums etc. Bananas I was throwing out, however, Im going to attempt to make banana bread.
Does anyone have a Panasonic breadmaker, model SD 254? If you do in some of the recipes they have next to it (SD-255 only), does this mean that particular recipe can only be made in that particular model?
Whenever im baking, and it says to use butter, can I use Stork margarine? Ive got a big tub of stork in the fridge, and it needs using up.
Ive probably got loads other questions, that I will ask later on, but, thats the only ones I can think of just now.
If anyone decides to answer my questions, many many thanks.
Jackie

Hi
OK - freezing fruit...
Bananas freeze OK, and can even be skinned first, wrapped and frozen and then eaten like popsiclesOr they can be used even when ripe for things like banana bread - if you use the search here you'll find lots of threads on using up bananas. Apples - usually best cooked first. Plums should be OK.
Breadmaker - we have a long standing thread on these - the answer may be in there (it's long!) but if you can't find it just ask on the thread
I am in love with my Panasonic breadmaker
Butter / Stork - yes the two are largely interchangeable.

Hiya
You could stew the fruit with a bit of water and sugar and freeze to use as a base for apple/plum etc crumble or pie. Or to mix in with a bowl of porridge to liven it up at bit. There are threads in the Mega Indexed collection at the top of the page which will tell you which fruits do/do not freeze - sorry can't do links
I always use stork for baking and have had no problems
Sorry dont have a breadmaker - its on my wishlist though!

I think so, yes - but mine isn't a panasonic and I don't see why a recipe should be so specific. So asking the expert owners on the thread I linked to is probably the best way to goHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I sugar and gently stew any tired fruits, puree and then freeze for later use as a kind of sweet sauce. Smashing poured over any kind of milk pudding or added to a fruitloaf type recipe.0

Hi Lesley,
yes the SD 255 has the nut dispenser, but, the SD 254 (which is the one I have) doesnt.

I have the panny and I think it refers to ones you can use timer with on 255.
On the 245 you have to add the ingredients so not suitable for timer use:heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -
I usually don't add any sugar to fruit when I stew it.
Sometimes with apples I add a small bit of whatever juice I have in the fridge to them instead of water to stew, when they're nice & soft I mash with a potato masher.
As for plums they can usually be cooked very gently without water as they contain alot already.
Both are great frozen and make great toppings for porridge or rice pudding, my DD eats stewed apple or pear on it's own and loves it.
Yum, yum0 -
I "stew" plums in the oven. I make holes in them all over with a fork so they don't split. Put them in a pyrex dish and sprinkle sugar on if I think they may be too tart. Cover and put on the floor of the oven while cooking other things.
Mine is a gas oven suspect that electric with an element in the floor might be too hot.0 -
mango and pineapple freeze well for smoothies, just prepare and chop up as usual (tho have never tried just eating them when they come out of the freezer). Using them from frozen makes the smoothie seem nearly like ice cream0
