  • Your midwife wont mind you contacting her/him about this, trust me i'm a student midwife!
It could be worse as your hormones and natural flora and fauna (sorry if TMI) are out of whack etc etc. Phone your midwife and have a chat and they can advise the best thing to do. If you get treatment from the chemist tell them you're pregnant and there's some you shouldn't use. And yes you're right, plain natural yoghurt is another thing to try.
If it doesn't get better it might be worth having a swab just to make sure it isn't anything else that needs treating.

  • if you are sure you have thrush then go and ask your pharmacist what they would recomend in view of the fact you are pregnant
  • i reccomend the above, but also take extra those pills from the health food shop which have good bacteria in them they work a treat by restoring the balance. Also eat foods which have a lower yeast content, you'll be surprised where stuff is hidden in pizzas, biscuits etc for a while, as well as lower sugar alternatives. so basically healthy diet with wholemeal bread( i know it has yeast but good for digestion and satisfying hunger), and plenty of fibre, fresh veg and fresh fruit with lots of water.Be careful when washing in certain areas, and use cotton underwear. I also found washing towels on a higher temp and keeping my own towel worked. The above worked for me throughout pregancy and if i have bouts. I found that everything cleared up including itching within a couple of weeks- just ask about creams you can use whilst pregant i found none of the usual ones worked but as you are pregnant you should be able to get free prescriptions or chemist prescribed ones so very mse. Good luck with it.

I have bought natural live yoghurt from my health food shop and it has worked a treat. Just make sure its live. It acts to restore the normal healthy balance. If this doesn't work then make sure you do mention it to your doctor or midwife - they won't mind and have to deal with this kind of thing all the time.
  • i just dont fancy getting my ninnie out for the doc hehe

I got it loads of times when I was expecting my second baby. I didn't have to get my bits out! I just rang the surgery and explained the problem and they would organise a prescription for me to collect. It's dead common to get thrush in pregnancy and it saved me taking up an appointment.

I would go to the GP rather than the chemist as you'll get your prescriptions free. I've just had a bout of thrush due to being on antibiotics and it cost me £10.50 for the single tablet in Boots, and it was going to be about £10 for cream and pessaries if I'd wanted to try that method.
Here I go again on my own....

Years ago when i was (obviously) pregnant and went to Boots, they refused to sell me thrush ointment so I had to go to the GP. I was very upset at the time (was at work and a pain to take time off for something that could be bought over the counter), but they were very nice about it.

    .
Same with me. If the symptoms are clear, they will often give you a script just after talking to the GP or midwife over the phone.

First baby? After having given birth your modesty disappears out the window - so many folk will have look at your ninnie you won't be so bothered again!

(PS natural live yoghurt worked for me!)

I have had thrush two or three times over the years and have never had a doctor examine me when Ive told him/her the symptoms. Just tell them the problem and you will get your prescription.
