Looking for a cheap but safe stay in Birmingham

I'm staying over one night at the end of February, for a work-related meeting. Any suggestions as to places to stay? I'm not too familiar with the city, so I don't want to end up dead. :o

I often stay in the Briar Rose which is bang in the centre, off New Street, and is a Wetherspoons Lodge. I also stay there with colleagues who come over from Germany from time to time and they all love it.
Being a Wetherspoons it's very reasonably priced!

Sometimes Bham Uni rents out rooms, I think. I was at Uni there years ago, but I've not been there since. Won't work be paying?

Thanks. Work's not dishing, because normally I'd go there and back (from Oxford) on the same day, since it's only like 1 1/2 hours each way. However, the day before the conference, I have an audition for a TV show in Brum, and it seemed silly to make two trips.

theres a comfort inn 1 minute walk from the station carpark exit thats aite for 1 nites stay. huge room for £39 a nite but kinda needs updating. but good for location and cheapness.
  • Try the ibis hotel think there doing rooms for £60 at the moment very central. in the chinese, theatre area, also 2 mins from the Bullring shopping mall, check it out on tripadvisor for reviews.

    What's your audition for :j

I would move in with these lovely people were I not too old to be adopted!

Fantastic hosts, the most amazing, massive breakfast I've ever eaten, clean rooms (OK, sheds, but dead luxurious) and very quiet. It's not in the centre, but it is within spitting distance of the airport (no night flights), so there's plenty of public transport, and the aforementioned fabulous hosts will drop you just about anywhere local in their minibus. It was £65 a night 18 months ago and I would go back like a shot.

It's not for 'doctors' is it?!

    £38 a night gets you the etap.http://www.etaphotel.com/etaphotel/fichehotel/gb/etp/5678/fiche_hotel.shtml

Basic but big and reliable chain. And still new and clean. Not far from the station, bullring and broad street. :) Sleeps up to three for the same price! Bring your friends!
