Insurance for House that has had subsidence corrected

My parents are struggling to get insurance for our house which had subsidence in the early 80s. Only the floor slab was affected and the walls were fine. It all got underpinned and the floor slab replaced and reinforced in 1984 (making it more sturdy now than most houses that have never had subsidence!). It was due to the soil compacting underneath the floor which is extremely unlikely to happen again considering the house is nearly 50 years old. There have been absolutely no problems since it was corrected.

The only company that will insure them at the moment is Saga but their renewal premium is really high (buildings and contents). Some companies would show an interest if we got a full structural survey done, but then that defeats the object of getting cheaper insurance. Any ideas of who could insure them?

I know that Towergate have a scheme (they seem to have a scheme for everything) - see http://www.towergatehousehold.co.uk/Default.aspx?page=22

I know that somebody posted another firms name a while back but cannot recall the name. Try searching this board with the phrase "subsidence" to find it.

Try Norwich Union. Our house was underpinned and nobody told us (long story). When we found out we told the insurer (NU) who increased the size of the excess and NOT the premium. Every year I run comparisions on the premium and every year NU come out tops.
