Hi, sorry if this is in thw wrong place
Hi im looking at going back to work par-time when my son goes into nursery.
I have looked through the site to try and find my answers but im not finding anything
Im basically wanting to find out.
1. If I go back to work less than 16 hours a week will I still be entitled to CTC or will it change to WTC and will I still get Child Benefit?
2. If I go back to work more than 16 hours but still part-time will I get what I have mentioned in number 1?
I have tried entitledto.com but I dont really understand it
Thank you for any help

Assuming you are single...
You will still get child benefit, whichever you do.
If you work more than 16 hours, you will get wtc and ctc, if your income is low enough.
If you work less than 16 hours then you definitely can't get wtc, but will still get ctc. I'm not sure what else you get or how it works out altogether but someone on here will.

bestpud has given sound advice. All i would add is that if you work less than 16 hrs you would receive a £20.00 disregard and then a pound for pound reduction on your income support
You would also still qualify for a full Housing benefit and Council Tax rebate.
My best advice and one i never tire of is simply contact your local JCP and ask for an appointment with a specialist New Deal Lone Parent adviser (if you are single) or any adviser (if you are not) and they will be more than happy to conduct a "better off calculation"Wins so far in 2009: £0.00

Thanks for your advice, ill contact JCP0 -
Does your partner receive wtc?
As long as they work 16 hours or more, you can work less than 16 hours and the wtc and ctc will just be adjusted accordingly. If you are both on low incomes, you may well still get wtc.
If you work more than 16 hours and they work less than 16 hours then you will still be able to claim wtc if your joint income is low enough.
If you both work over 16 hours, you may still get wtc.
It really depends on your joint income!
In all three scenarios, you would be highly likely to get ctc (unless your joint income is over £50000 odd a year) and you will still get child benefit.0 -
Just ring the Tax Credit office and ask them. Give them your predicted hours and wages (for both of you). They have the computer software to give you an estimated figure straight awayI'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0
