Don't know if I am postingthis in the right place... sorry if it's not!
Me & my hubby had to sell our flat in 2002 due to financial difficulties, we moved in with my parents. The money left over from the sale didn't pay off all our debts (it was before the price boom and only a 1 bedroom flat).
My parents said that we could move in with them to help us save.
They take £500 a month of us for rent and as I don't work due to ill health and still have some of our debt left (just over £3500 now) we can't afford to save for our own place.
Can anyone help give me some ideas on how to get a place of our own.
Most places for rent want deposits up front and references which we don't have and I know that we won't get a mortgage what else can we do???
Living here is getting unbearable now.
Hope someone can offer advice.
thanx

I have rented for about 5 years now, and have only ever been asked for an employer reference (does your OH work?) and never had a credit check run. How about sitting down with your parents and explaining the situation, and ask for one month rent free, on the condition you move out at the end of that month. This should free up enough for a deposit, from that months rent, and then use the next months money as rent to the LL instead of your parents. Look on the up your income board for ways to boost your finances, and work you can do from home, be it working on a phone line or just filling in surveys on the net. Every little helps. Ebay any unwanted/needed items, try daily clicks and quidco offers, there are loads of ideas on the boards here, it just takes time but it can be done.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hi,
Sorry to hear your situation.
I don't know where you are based but they often let couples rent in house shares where I am, still much cheaper than renting a one bed flat and sometimes get ensuite.
If you rented privately would you be able to get housing benefit?.0
