Eligible for benefits if job is left voluntarily?

Evening all
Can someone please confirm if you are entitled to benefits if you leave your job voluntarily? I think the answer is no but my ex is adamant he will be entitled to Income Support. At present he is living with his Mum and doesn't have any children. Please help, he may be an ex but I still don't want him to do something stupid!

You are correct, if you leave your job voluntarily you may claim JSA, but you are likely to receive a sanction of up to 26 weeks. IS is not payable to individual claimants unless they are sick, working and on a low income, or if they have children.

I left my job voluntarily, but due to recently acquired disability, I was finding it too tough to get to work, and wasn't really fit to work when I reached the premises!
I was allowed to claim JSA, but had an interview with the Disability Employment Advisor and had certain restrictions put on my signed statement about my ability to look for work, ie not full-time.

Otherwise, my partner voluntarily gave up a job several years ago but moved from the SE to the North to be with me, and was also allowed to claim unemployment benefit.

But generally, no it's not allowed. Best advice is for him to find a new job soonish!
