Floor tiles and carpet

Hi,
Just bought my first house, cost a fortune (a fortune for me), and now I realise it didnt include alot of extras like carpet and tiles!
The house builder is asking what seem to be very inflated prices for these extras as well, eg £1,100 for tiling the kitchen /diner (4.94x3.13).
Also £2.5k + for carpets.
Does anyone know a good supply and fit shop for carpet (preferably near Stevenage - Hertfordshire)
Also where the best place to buy floor tiles might be?
Many Thanks
Clay

Id go down B&Q find out the square meter cost and work out how much the materials are for the tiling, I'd personally would do the tiling myself especially if i can find a friend whos done it before (something to learn for next time). Carpet is a bit harder to do yourself and can be costly but again calculate the cost of the materials (underlay and spike strips to add as well and more so for the stairs.
EDIT: Builders quote ~£68 a square meter, B&Q cost for materials look around £10 - 30 a square meter depending on what quality you want.Money, Money, Money ..... Banks/Casinos/Bookies give me all you money its a poor mans world....0
