Rewiring a 1930's house

Hi,
My house hasn't been rewired since it was built (1937), overall we haven't had any probs since moving in, but in one room, the electrics trip if we have one too many appliances on.
It was estimated at £8,000 to rewire around 2 years ago this seems a bit steep, but don't really have any experience of what it should cost.
It is a 3 bed semi, but we are having a small conservatory at back which we'd want done as well.
Any ideas on how much it should cost and how long these things take? I am in South West London/Surrey
Many thanks!

hi there
we are currently having our 3 bed semi completely rewired from top to bottom and our electrician is very good and part-p qualified.
our quote for complete rewiring, new fuse box, outdoor sockets, security lights, garage lights, smoke detectors, bathroom spots and approx 40 brushed steel spotlights including own transformers and firehoods is about £5400
he has also allowed plenty of extra cabling for when we do our back and side extension, has made some excellent recommendations and is very thorough.
8k seems very expensive!
Where in surrey are you as i'm in surbiton/kingston area? PM if you want his number.0 -
Thanks malteser! I am near Raynes Park, so just around the corner really. Your quote sounds much more reasonable!
I will PM you in a sec
Thanks again,
