We're spending a weekend in Newbury later this month visiting my son . Can anyone advise on places to see, pubs, restaurants etc. I'm a real ale freak who enjoys walking, good food and live music, but I don't possess an anorak!
Thanks

Hi - I can suggest two 1st rate pubs.
First try The Bell at Aldworth between Newbury and Streatley. It's like a 200 year time warp and has won The Award for winning the most awards.Google a bit and you'll find all the info you need.Second try The Pot Kiln at Frilsham. It's just changed hands.See https://www.potkiln.co.uk for details.Make sure you have a large scale map and be careful to follow the directions as it is well tucked away.

This is the best know local website which is affiliated to the local paper, the Newbury Weekly News (which itself has a good entertainment/leisure guide when it comes out on Thursday).

There is a great Tourist Information Centre located down by the Wharf and they are very helpful.
The Kennet & Avon canal offers great walks, canal boat trips (some horse drawn) and a few good pubs. More good walks are available on the Ridgeway a few miles up towards Oxfordshire, which is one of the oldest trails in Britain.
For live music, check out the schedule at the Corn Exchange and the New Greenham Arts Complex.
Or maybe a trip to Highclere Castle or even a day at Newbury Racecourse?"Life is like a game of cards.
