Advice needed about old credit card

i hope someone can give me advice here. i have just had a letter from lowell group stating that they have just bought a debt off barlaycard qwuoting the number etc. but i dont remember having it. i am already paying off 2 others one to lowell and another to fcm. i have been paying them for years. but at least i am doing it a bit at a time. i spoke to lowell they told me to call barclaycard up about it, wow they got really nasty saying they didn't have to say anmything to me as they had sold the account. and that i should talk to lowell about it. but !!!! they did mention that it was dated 1991 and that it was in my first married name. i had been divorced twice since. when i asked barclaycard why they hadn't asked for this so called outstanding debt to be paid in the last 16 years he said it was because it was such a little amount 2272.62. not so little i said. he then told me to talk to lowell about it. can anyone give me any advice on whether i have to pay this as i really cannot recall having it. lowell told me to send a copy of my signiture to them.
please help

Have you paid anything on this debt in the last 6 years? Have you acknowledged the debt in writing in that time? If not, it may be statute-barred, meaning they can't sue you for it.
