my partner and i are splitting up and putting the house in just my name.
we went to see the bank and he said i was ok, financially to do it.
so, do i now look for a solicitor to take off my partners name?
how complex is this process and what will it all cost????????
HELP?????

I'm in the same position but the other way round - the house is remaining in my husband's name. We're in Scotland so I don't know if it's different there from the rest of the UK but I was told my husband was the one who had to see a solicitor to get my name taken off the title deeds and it would cost approximately £300 - £400.
We haven't actually done this yet as I haven't found another place to stay & we're still jointly paying the mortgage but I was also told the solicitor I'm seeing who is dealing with our separation can act for my husband as it wouldn't be a conflict of interest. (He is not seeing a solicitor re the separation).
Hope this helps - good luck!Marg0 -
thanks for the info..... has anyone else had any experience on this from england?0

Its not very complex.
I went though it last year but the other way around.
Ex got a mortgage agreement to take it over.
We got a conveyancer to draw up the title transfer. Ex got the mortgage paperwork to the conveyancer.
I got a cheque for my 1/2 of the equity from the solictor. This was made up of assistance from her parents I think to pay me that money.
Fees were £265 which we split down the middle.
This was last Feb in West Yorkshire.
We both went in to the conveyancer together and signed.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

We Have Been Told We Need Two Solicitors???????!!!!!!
Because Of A Conflict Of Interest Or Somthing!!!!!
NONE OF THE EQUITY IS GOING TO MY OTHER HALF
So Do We Just Need 1 Conveyancor To Everything To Do With The 'title Transfer'?
Iam West Yorkshire Too0 -
We used one conveyencer for it.
Keighley based Howarth & Hollins.
We had used them before for buying and selling and we agreed what was happening and values etc (not that its needed for you) and then just told them what we wanted.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Is the mortgage currently joint? If so, then presumably you are remortgaging to put the mortgage in your name only? If that's the case, then you need a solicitor anyway for the remortgage and they will deal with the transfer of the title as part of the mortgage process.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
