tax credits for single parent when moving back in with parents?

Options
Hi, just wondering what the situation would be for an adult (over 25) moving back in with their parents would be.

two working adults in the parents home so no council tax benefit I know but how about tax credits.

I would be working 30 hours a week or so getting £165 a week before tax, both kids in nursery. i would also be paying £50 a week "rent" for our room plus a bit towards bills.

even though we have been living apart for a year OH has been paying the rent as all the council keep saying is that we would have to go into a hostel for four months before we could be rehoused, so OH pays my rent whilst he lives in a rented room, hardly fair!

and no there is not an option of claiming benefits whilst in my current home, landlord (or his mortgage people) wont allow it, but also I couldnt afford it on my own anyway.

  • You can still claim tax credits as a single person, you are not living with a partner so would still claim on your own with the kids.
They dont take in to consideration things like bills and rent. They only look at how much you income is.
Based on your income you may get the 80% towards your childcare costs dependant on how much it costs per week. If you pay anything up to £300 (between the 2 kids) they will pay 80% of the costs.
