I am just about to dust off my faithful sewing machine but I can`t find any decent sewing fabrics. No David Morgan any more.
Anyone know of any fabric shops or even internet links, although I prefer the shops
It is so frustrating

try city road in cardiff, must be at least 10 shops down there with all different types of fabrics:T Thanks to all lovely MSE'rs - you are great friends :T0

I suppose it depends where you live we have a chain of stores called Boyes that have a large range of materials. Dunhelm mills - house wear stores, also do dress material in curtaining department, then there's the big stores like John Lewis.
I think for most people it's now far cheaper to buy than make so supply and demand most shops have closed.0 -
there was a shop at Culverhouse cross with lovely stuff-its a big place -?Fabric World. City road is great-but Parking bit hit and miss-l tend totry to park between a couple of shops and walk up and down to them.Have you tried your local markets as they often have small units.
Just remembered a shop in Church Village-between Pontypridd and Lantrisant-has more heavier curtain type fabrics as well as satins and other stuff.Hope this helps!:j this money saving is such fun:T0 -
My patterns arrived today. Lovely child patterns from habithat and only ordered yesterday. I can make dresses so cheaply and better and individual. There is one pattern with a long and short sleeved dresses, nightgown with an elasticated bottom, hats, pants, a little cape and an all in one long-legged romper. I can see me making all of these in all sorts of materials. The pattern goes up to 24 lbs so I`ll definitely get my moneys worth as baby is due in may. Thanks for the ideas of where to go.0

Oooh, this takes me back!
I spent a wonderful week of summer afternoons sewing DD baby dresses while she slept. It was back in 1988 and she was 7 months old; I made 8 dresses and spent less than £4 in all - most of that was cotton broderie anglais fabric for the yokes and broderie anglais lace trimming. OK, I did have to iron the frocks, but she looked lovely!
The next summer I was more prepared and spent even less by re-using gorgeous fabrics, including some Liberty tana lawn (it was really hard wearing, she used to play in the garden in that dress and it washed beautifully!) and Laura Ashley.
It was such a money saver that I made most of her clothes, coats and all, plus PJs, shirts, shorts and trousers for the boys.
Then she got to about 9 years old and wanted a shell suit... oh dear!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
There's a big store on the main road in Llantwit Fardre. They''l be worth a look.0

I have been fabric shopping. Hillside in llantwit farde was easy to find and sold mostly curtaining and some other bits but I got a pattern from them and interfacing so I can trace my child patterns
My memory kicked in then and I found my way to fabric world on the treforest estate. I haven`t been there for at least 15 years. I got 4 old patterns at 25p each and some material and thread so all in all a good days work
I still can`t find really good quality clothing fabric so my next foray will be along city road and I am still trawling the internet. I may also look to the US0 -

as always they are in the US so I had to stay under $40 to avoid tax. I have been looking for stretch for baby and have ordered some lovely patterns0
