Starting a new job - Applying for mortgage??

Options
Hello,

My partner and I are in the process of buying a flat, found a property we liked, got it and I went to see Nationwide today regarding a mortgage. They had already credit checked us and it all come back fine.

I am now abit worried though as my boyfriend starts a new job on 1st February. I took in his P60 to Nationwide and they said they were going to contact his employers for confirmation of wages as it didn’t have his full years earning on there as he had only worked at the company 5 months at the time of getting his P60.

They are going to write to his current employer, but by the time they would get a response he would of left there already. I am really worried that they won’t give us the mortgage if he won’t of been in employment with a company for some time? He doesn’t have a ‘trial’ period he gets a secure job straight away, and they are willing to send a letter to Nationwide saying this. I didn’t tell the Nationwide of him starting a new job as at the time of the credit score etc he didn’t have any plans to change company.

Will our mortgage still be able to go ahead with this? I have found my dream home but can’t get the full mortgage on just my wages, and don’t want to lose it!!

You should tell them. Chances are the score willbe high enough and it will be passed. They may ask some questions about probation periods etc but if its the same line of work you should be ok. If you dont and they find out youlied then you are breaking the law and you get in to more trouble.

Or, you could hold fire and see what happens, but if you lied they may decline because you lied and not because of the job thing!

  • Thanks for your reply.

We've rung and left a message asking him to give us a ring to tell him all this. It is exactly the same line of work but with a bigger company and more money. When we got the credit check bit done before though it had a "referral" to head office for them to check something before it was agreed (only a day or so later) so what type of reasons could it of been referred to them? Hopefully not because we were threshline to passing the check :-S I will be so sad if we do not get it. We didn't really realise it was a "problem" that he was changing jobs.
