MBNA Credit Card limit

I have one card with MBNA with a £13600 credit limit on it. Today I applied to increase my credit limit to firstly £20000 and then £17000 but MBNA said that they couldnt go any higher. I earn £23262 per Annum, what are other people's credit limit with MBNA compared to their annual salary?

Thanks in advance for any Response.

You credit limit with some CC company depends not only on your salary, but also on your credit limits with other credit (not only credit cards) companies. What is worth comparing with salary is your total credit available.

My Credit limit in total is:-
    Egg £10000 - £9500 Outstanding.
    Capital One £6000 - £5700 Outstanding.
    MBNA £13600 - £0 Outstanding.

I dont have any other outstanding debts apart from my mortgage of £65000.

The money that is outstanding on my Egg and capital one cards is in my ING account and that is my Stooze pot.

I think you still have some potential, but with other cards.

A few years ago (not all that many though), I was told by one CC company that a rough guideline was for your credit limit to be 10% of your gross income. That's gone out of the window these days!

I think someone earning £23K is doing reasonably well to have a £13.6K limit on one card. Of course there will be people here who can claim higher multiples, but generally speaking that is high.

Why would anyone want to increase their credit limit ? A high credit limit with MBNA just limits the amounts that you will get on better credit terms with other card companies. I only ever used my MBNA card to pay my ISP and always paid three months in advance. My closing limit was close to £13000. This has incremented up month by month over two years from £3000. Those pesky credit card cheques were a fraud risk in my view.

I wanted to increse my credit limit so if am I accepted for the virgin card that I have just applied for then I will transfer most of the credit limit onto the Virgin card from my othe MBNA card and then transfer that money into my current account and onto a high interest account thus making my Stooze pot bigger.

I have a MBNA card with a £12K balance. I paid if off in full last week & noted they had upped the limit to £12.9K when the statement arrived yesterday.

Applied for a Virgin card two weeks ago & was declined. I appealed, saying my MBNA card was clear & I was happy for the limit to be transferred over. They rang me yesterday saying that they still wouldn't accept me even if I closed the MBNA card as my indebteness was too high (c.60K stooze pot, £45K showing on Experian).

I'll be interested to see how you get on with your application.
