Right to buy - rent to mortgage

Hello all. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the right to buy using the 'rent to mortgage' scheme for us council tenants. Apparently you gradually buy the property without paying any more than your current rent. Our rent is a bargain price though so I'm not sure how this would work - we'd be making payment for the next couple of centuries at least??!!! And apparently it is different to the shared ownership schemes available?

Anyone with any info or opinions? Or experience?
