i have an buildings insurance policy with no excess,
my door has slightly blown up from the bottom.
they are asking for a carpenters report as to why that has happened.
i was wandering wether any1 has any advice on doors blowing up, or what i could say to the insurance company
thanx in advance

What do you mean by "blown up?"
Do you mean there has been an explosion !!
Are are you talking about something that has expanded because it has got damp?
Have you thought about looking into the costs of sorting it out yourself?
If you go through insurance you will get a higher premium next year and lose no claims, so if it's a cheap repair you would be better off not claiming.
However I think you need to explain better what has happened to your door.0 -
it has expanded
and my insurance policy doesnt increase it is a fixed rate.smile...and the world will smile with you!

Your Buildings Policy will cover the door if it is damaged by an Insured Peril,
By an insured peril you are looking at a SINGLE event, rather than damage from a long term ongoing problem, which would be declined as a maintenece issue,
So the insurance company will be looking for a report to prove/disprove the single event
If it has blown over a period of time and not due to water ingress from a single event such as water damage from a single leak or flood then you stand little chance of them accepting the claim, as they will just put it down as a wear and tear maintenence issue and not an insured peril.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -

Can you tell us how you got this as it sounds like it might eb a good deal if it's not subject to any claims.

i just dont know how
in order for your insurers to be able to make a payment then you have to fully substantiate your claim and essentially shown that you have a valid claim.
this is why your insurers have requested the joiners report.
unless you can prove that the door was damaged as a result of an insured peril then your insurance company would not pay out.
its prbably not even worth your while. you should be able to replace a full door and architrave for approx £150.0
