This sounds like paranoid scaremongering to me. It is the Torygraph after all. That information already exists in other agencies. Lots of organizations, some public and some private, track house prices, there is nothing new. Perhaps someone has decided that RM can put it together quicker and in a better format, but even that I doubt, since surely any data they have depends on EAs, and either it is done after the Land Registry etc get the data or is unreliable/different from the other data. If a price changed late in a sale, for instance, the EA might not even know, the only reliable source of information will come from the price on completion - and if we can get that online, there's no point trying to keep it a secret from government!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

Talk of "tax spies" is a bit silly. Martin Lewis has been encouraging people to save money by having their property rebanded, so anything that makes the initial valuation more accurate has to be a good thing. Nobody likes paying tax, but it might as well be done correctly first time.
I'm more upset that the price I sold my house for, is available to any member of the public a few weeks later. That private transaction should be exactly that, private.Been away for a while.0 -

It's a British thing not talking about money. Why does it matter how much you sold your house for why does it need to be a secret. I've always been quite open about money. How much I earn, my husband earns, house cost, house sold for.......for anyone that might be slightly interested.:o As I'm a teacher its easy to work out roughly how much i earn anyway its all on the net!
I think thats some of the problem with the debt in this country people will not talk about money.
There are things that need to be kept private I agree but money is not one of them!
Just my opinion of course!:rolleyes:0 -
The governement doesn't (to the best of my knowledge) release figures on how much you spent on a car, a holiday, or a night with a Thai ladyboy. It's private. Even more so for a house. What is to stop junkmailers and door-to-door salesmen targetting recent homebuyers using information gained from these websites?Been away for a while.0

No but details of price information being public are normal for most asset markets (stock exchange, futures and options markets etc) as price transparancy helps markets operate better.0 -
Now your secrets out!how much you spent on.......a night with a Thai ladyboy0 -

Anything this inept government does is for a reason - and the reason is usually to get more tax pounds from us.
Call it what you like, bury your head where you want but you can be certain that this information will be used to make you and me part with hard earned cash for them to waste.0
