Hello. I claimes tax credits for about 3 years but stopped last April when i had my renewal letter come through saying i'd been overpaid by about £5000. They said they'd claim it through future payments so my payments then went down quite alot. Seeing that amount scared me, going through my old claims i could see that some of it was my mistake so i basically didn't send in the renewal pack and my payments then stopped. I've heard and done nothnig since then. I'm still on a low wage, £16000, have wife who doesn't work and one young daughter so extra money would be handy. Do you suggest i try claiming again?, or they likely to see i still owe them alot of money and may want it back quicker. As i said the overpayments were probably my fault.. Any advise? Thanks.

They will adjust any new claim to take into account the previous overpayments.
