  • I've always found the dove yeast is fine. Perhaps it's too much salt or not putting the ingredients in the pan in the right order, you need to do this to keep the yeast separate from the salt a while I believe.
  • Hi ggreatsite2

The one thing I have done is put things in in the right order. I'm a menace for just bunging things in normally and then finding something more interesting to do BUT OH was watching and as it was our first time of doing in and in true MSE fashion I didn't want to break the thing on its first outings, I did it exactly as per the book.......stunning for me.....

He's a right one for reading instructions and he's made a couple of loaves too and we've had the same probs.

I'm going to try less salt next time definitely.

    Thanks
    LM :)

I've had the same problem recently with my w meal loaves, then I changed flour and started adding warm water and it is working again now. Apparently weather can affect the gluten in the wheat crop and so in the flour, so it could be that.
  • Thanks Sharra.

I've just been out an bought some Allison's very strong white flour, as opposed to Hovis Strong White, so with that and the reduced salt and the warm water.....here's hoping!

I'm going to do a loaf tomorrow so fingers crossed!

  • i know exactly what you mean, mine sometimes does this, it is usually when i use it on the timer function, i thought that maybe because it is not doing anything for a while the water gets through to the yeast, but that is just a guess.

I'd use the french loaf receipe, otherwise I think the texture will be too soft, and you'd make more like sub rolls. I've not actually tried it.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Late last night I decided to put all the ingredients in the panny for a 50% wholemeal loaf on timer.

I woke this morning remembering I forgot to put the butter in. I was expecting a rubbish loaf to come out, but no I had a perfect loaf with no added fat! Brilliant.

    I love my panny

funnily enough I did exactly the same thing a few days ago. I've only had the panasonic 2 weeks and thought it would be a disaster when I reaslised I'd forgotten the fat but I couldn't tell the difference
    I haven't added butter since!

I have been using Tesco strong flour and hovis yeast sachets and had no problems. Every loaf perfect.
:)Do more of what makes you happy:)
  • Well, I took on board all the advice, got some Allisons Very Strong Flour, had my yeast in the fridge, warmed my water and used less salt and we had a lovely loaf pop out.

Funnily enough i nearly forgot the butter when making this one.....might try that next time.

Thanks veryone for your help with this.
