  • Hi

    Does anbody know:

If I was to start Permitted Work, working up to 16 hours, earning up to £88.50 a week whilst still got problems,if I couldnt carry on with the work because my health affected me in the job would I still be able to leave the job & claim IB?

Does Tax/NI come off the £88.50?

Working under PW rules means that you still claim IB for up to 52 weeks.
Earnings of £88.50pw are taxable, but no NI would be deducted.
  • So is it £88.50 x 0.75 = £66.37 Take Home?

Is it not allowed to be a job Eg: As a Nanny where the pay is Eg: £85 A Day Net & the parents pay Tax/NI on top of this?

This is the way in which Nanny Jobs are paid & where the parents have to pay Tax/NI on top because they are the employer.

So would I have to find a Nanny Job (If this is what I decide to do) that pays Eg:£65 A Day Net?

    Hope this makes sense.

The Permitted Work earnings limit is £88.50 per week-not take home pay. Earn over £88.50 limit and your IB claim will stop.

Thank you,you have been a great help.

1.If I was to do Permitted Work and I was called for a Medical which I have not been called for yet and they stopped me claiming because I didnt score enough points, would I have to stop the Permitted Work?

2.Is it best to let the employer know that you are doing this as Permitted work? Because if Eg: your health started playing up on you on a day at work then your employer is aware of this.

3.If your claim is stopped from the Medical because you didnt score enough points, what support could you get in a job knowing full well that you know yourself that your health might affect the job that you are in?

:A Thanks everybody for responding. :A

My dad isn't keen on going to the job centre and explaining "to some whippersnapper" about how he needs a couple of days to recover from a few hours of driving, how he now needs a nap in the afternoons "like a baby", how the pain still makes him cry sometimes, and how frustrated he gets trying to do "simple" things like tieing his shoelaces and stuff.

Never mind the fact that he doesn't have many job related skills. He's severely dyslexic, not computer literate and can't do the physical work he used to do any more. I don't know what kind of work they could find for him that he could do.

I can't believe he's going to lose the IB. It was hard enough to persuade him to apply for the it in the first place.

The doctor talked him into it by pointing out that if he claimed IB all the way to his retirement date it wouldn't add up to anything like the amount he'd had to find to pay for his double hip replacement when the NHS had let him down.

The doc said to think of it as the government paying him back some of that money at a rate of £88.50 a week.

Where's the provison for people who can only work p/t as that's all their condition allows - and what's wrong with them topping up their income with IB if that's all they can do????

  • What rotten luck it just doesnt seem fair. Is there no way around it? Could he give up the paid work and maybe volunteer for something like driving the elderly to hospital? Could the doctor and the CAB involved?

At a loss to suggest things really sorry.
