Cheap Road Tax for Cars with Offset CO2

Options
Hi Guys

I have just signed up for a New Landrover who at the moment are Offsetting the CO2 of the car for the first 3 years. The Dealer said that this year the Goverment will be giving a Tax Break / Lower Road Tax charge to owners of vehicles that have been offset.

I have searched the internet for days and i cant find this mentioned anywhere, has anyone else heard of this or can tell me where to look for the information?

Cheers

Shaun

  • You basically won't know whether there will be any reduction/increase on the road tax cost until the budget is announced.

I work for DVLA and we don't get told any differnce in cost until Chancellor has announced it.

So no idea what the dealer's are on about sorry! And can't really see it happening like that because Land Rover , according to their website, only offset the first 45000miles so how would government know when you have reached that figure?!

If you are really worried about carbon emissions, surely the answer is to buy a car with low emissions.

  • Carbon offsetting is a big con trick, the concept has a huge flaw in it.

Before humans came along, there was the carbon cycle. Plants grew, taking CO2 out of the atmosphere and then they'd die and rot/get eaten or burn in a forest fire, resulting in CO2 going back into the atmosphere. Then new plants would take the CO2 out of the atmosphere.

This cycle would continue for long periods of time, with changes in CO2 levels coming slowly due to wider environmental and geological factors.

Now we're pouring vast quantities of CO2 into the atmosphere from fossil fuels, CO2 that would otherwise have been trapped underground. We're adding CO2 to the carbon cycle much faster than natural processes (including volcanos) and planting a tree won't remove that CO2 from the cycle.
