Hi folks.
My husband bought a used car yesterday (1999 Vauxhall Zafira) which was delivered this morning.
The problem is that he will not be home until this evening and the central locking key doesn't appear to be working. The light doesn't come on when I press the buttons (there are two) and it doesn't do anything.
Now, I have never driven or had anything to do with cars at all so I really don't know how to get the darn thing to lock. It has been left totally unlocked and my hubby won't be home until late this evening. It's fair to say that I feel very uncomfortable about leaving it unlocked outside our house all day.
HELP!!!!!!!

Have you tried the key in the door lock?0
-
:rotfl: You would really think that I would have thought of that eh? :rotfl:
Yeah, all doors locked now. Thanks. Really, I am a complete tool when it comes to motoring. I've never even put petrol in a car. Didn't realise their WAS a lock on the driver's side door.
Have noticed however that when I unlock the doors again, one of them doesn't open
Oh well. Thanks anyway. I will now feel like a total idiot for the rest of the day :beer:Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

Glad you're sorted!
BUT...not trying to be sarcastic/cockey etc etc, wouldn't it be worthwhile finding out about a few of the things that need looking at, routinely, or not so often - just in case!!

Take it back to the garage if there is a problem with the key,it may just need a new battery.
There are two sides to every story.

You would be suprised by the amount of people caught out this way, I spoke to an RAC man a couple of weeks ago, he got a call out to a man whose car would not open.
He had been standing in the rain for almost an hour pressing the button on his remote, waiting for the locks to open. I can imagine he felt a bit of a fool when the RAC man put his key in the door lock!0 -

I'm such a plonker I really am.
Over the past few days I've become infamous for not being able to lock the car. I deserve it, I know.
About the key, yes, we are taking it back to the garage. They were very helpful. Guess I must look like somebody who needs a lot of help :rotfl:Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small

Whatever you do, do not push both buttons together! That activates the ejector seat!
The battery is probably dead in the key by the way.0 -
To fix the central locking, if the light comes on on the keyfob the battery isnt dead,
Put the key in the ignition of the car, Turn it till the dash lights light up,
Please the Bottom (Lock button) Then the Unlock button, Then the lock button again this will re syncronize the key with the central locking.
^ it normaly gets unzyncronized when pressed to many times out of range of the car.If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

No the light doesn't come on at all. I've just automatically assumed that the battery is dead. Is it possible for the thing to actually break? Thanks to everyone who posts comps, I love winning prizes big and small
