Utilita won my price comparison as well (at £183 grand total for all gas and electricity for the year). But I didn't like what I read about being locked-in for a year. Moreover, the price includes a £43 discount which I assume you only get at the end of year 1. So the price would then become £183+£43 at todays prices.
I have applied to join equipower.co.uk instead, at a total cost of £193. They have no standing charges or tiered rates at all. It should make sense for any low-energy users. I reduced my energy consumption enormously by implementing various economy measures, starting with low power light bulbs and only heating the water for a morning shower, rather than leaving the hot water tank full of hot water all day. Who needs it? My approach still provides luke-warm water all day for washing hands, etc.
My current Scottish Power arrangement would cost £259 on the same basis, and is quite good itself. It came from a recommendation at this forum, earlier in the year. This forum saves me a fortune!
