Motorcycle service auctions

Options
Hello

Wonder if anyone can shed any light on this - I have been genning up on best places to buy motorcycles and one site mentioned that good deals could be had buying at auctions selling former service bikes (eg ex police, ambulance etc).

Does anyone know how I can find out where the nearest auction dealing in this is to me, or how I might find out.

Cheers

Rich

Be very ware of buying former services motorcycles. While they can be had at bargain prices, the process of decommissioning involves removing quite a few bits which can leave holes in the bike. Also, services bikes are extremely complex with a lot of extra wiring inserted to drive lights, sirens, radios etc. Much of this is cut into the existing wiring and after a few years it all starts to go wrong. I know this first hand because of the experiences that we have had with our blood bikes, all of which are ex-services demonstrator bikes. Our bikes aren't decommissioned, except for the removal of radios, and we have quite a few problems with the electrics.

Having said that, riding an ex-services bike can be fun because you feel like Moses parting a sea of traffic. A white bike with yellow hi-viz markings will always get motorists attention and generally make them move out of your way.

A lot of ex-service bikes can be bought from Force Motorcycles, who do the decommissioning work in a fairly professional manner.
