Another embarrassingly dumb question (roasting a whole chicken)

I'm no expert, but I believe you should cook the chicken for 20min/pound of weight, plus an additional 20 mins. So a 3 pound chicken should be in the oven for 80 mins. I cook it at about 180.sparklewing wrote: »You make it sound so easy! I'm so scared of chicken it's really quite pathetic.0

Something like that, yes. I do a 1.2kg for around 90 mins, and a 1.9kg for just under two hours.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

LOL !!!
Came on here worried sick about debts and I've learnt how to cook a chicken !!
Not bad at 32yrs old !!!:rotfl:0 -
Haven't read all the thread - just dipped in & out but I think its great that someone is asking how to do it - cos we all have to learn! It's how we learn anyway - by asking!!
I was a grammar school girl and we didn't have cookery lessons (and hated anything like that at home & my mother despaired of me!:o ) so when I got married I had to learn quickly.
I had a couple of very basic cookery books and it was all trial & error really. I used to phone my Mum & ask the daftest questions or ask older neighbours for help or even the local butcher & shopkeepers.
I am proud to say that in 31 years of marriage we have never had food poisoning and we eat a healthy and varied diet. I buy very little ready made food and buy local veg and eggs and meat. Unless there's a VERY good offer on in a supermarket - sometimes you get 2 fresh chickens for about a fiver (but remember to remove bag of "bits").
I am not everso houseproud but I do like my kitchen appliances, implements, sink and chopping boards scrupulously clean. Likewise hands - I go on at all my lot about washing their hands all the time! I also don't like being in someone's house & seeing them preparing food with grubby old hairy jumpers and knowing that their cats sit on the worktops! Yeukk:eek:
I have always washed my chicken with cold water and dabbed it dry with kitchen towel & like I said, we're all still here!!:rotfl:0 -
Have not read all posts but did anyone mention there are often pads of fat just inside which I always remove as eating low fat. Another tip is to rub Balsamic Vinegar into skin instead of butter or oil. It gives a good colour and very crispy skin. You dont miss the butter.0
