www.beatthatquote.com ?? Help Martin

Hi everyone.
I saw these folks in an advert on tv.....I think a fortnight or so ago.

I tried them for a quote....which lead to Marks and Spencer being the cheapest. They quoted £165 for car insurance

However I went on Marks and spencer site and got a quote of over £200! I rang M & S and they couldnt match it!

I am wondering who these people are?

I would appreciate your advice.

I wonder what Martin thinks of the site www.beatthatquote.com.

I am fearful of giving them my money!

Kind regards
Clare

Well www.beatthatquote.com are authorised by the FSA as are their parent organisation - Best Value Financial Sales. See http://www.fsa.gov.uk/register/firmBasicDetails.do?sid=155115

BVSF are unable to hold client money.

    Thank you Matty!
    Thats very reassuring.
I just cant understand why M & S couldnt match the quote.......its for the same insurance.

I just was very wary of dealing with them.

Thank you once again for your prompt reply
    Kind regards

Its not unusual for comparison websites to show a typical premium, that is sometimes different when the insurer knows all the facts ... or for the premiums to be priced differently depending on how you contact a company
( via a link, direct to insurers own site, or call centre)

of course M&S aren't car insurers themselves

Hi Clare - read over the cheap car insurance article in case you haven't already - it'll explain how to get the cheapest price from up to 120 quotes and possible cashback too.

The reason you're finding different prices could be due to the commercial relationships between that particular site and the insurer, it's quite common hence being good practise to search a few sites for the best price. :)

    Hi Crabman

Never thought about M & S not being car insurers!

It definitely is worth "shopping" around.

Is it true.... to be able to get money back through Quidco, you most definitely need to have the account in quidco the same as the insurance policy holder?
You see, my husband is the policy holder and I am the quidco account holder and IF I succeed with getting money back through Quidco, our insurance would be cheaper again! Is it worth the "gamble"?

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Kind regards

Provided it tracks properly (make sure you close browser & clear cookies in case you've visited the merchant site before), it's not a problem whose name it's in.

Before going via Quidco, use the CashBack Checker to make sure you get the best rate available. I tend to use Rpoints with their HCP to match Quidco's rate but that's just personal preference as I had issues with Quidco. :)

They're a comparison site ... so why would you be giving them money? They make their money from affiliate links when you 'apply' to one of the quotes they give ... you then deal directly with the company providing the quote - M&S / A&L etc.

You only give basic data to get the range of quotes .. so it's fairly inevitable a precise quote, once you've provided further detail, will be different. It's generally up ... but I have known it go down particularly, for some reason with travel insurance.

I have successfully arranged car insurance for my husband through my Quidco account and the cash back was paid into my personnal account not a joint account. It didn't seem to matter that the policy was in my hubby's name.

As post #7 .... it does if it didn't track. Quidco won't take it on as a 'ticket' if you're purchasing in someone else's name as it breaches their T&Cs. And they're particularly hot on Insurance purchases .. because of the greater value

14.2. You must only have a single, member account at Quidco and that account must only be being used for transactions personal to you. You may not use your Quidco account for purchases made on behalf of other people.
