Reg: Money withdrawn without the debit card and pin

Hello,
Can anyone guess what would have happened.
I got a current account with a popular high street bank.
I went to get my bank statement, which I already ordered to collect it from the branch. Branch employee asked for a id proof and i gave my debit card to her. She went inside the bank and came back in 5 minutes and gave the card and the bank statements. In the evening (Online banking)I found that someone withdrawn £300 from my account today. I called the bank customer service, they said the withdrawn took place after 15 minutes I left the branch. No one knows my password. Customer service people said they raised for investigation and it will be answered within 6 to 8 weeks. I am really surprised how this can happen, without my PIN, eventhough how a bank employee(I guess) can withdraw money. I am going to speak to the manager. Do anyone had the same problem, how did you sort this out, thanks

  • How would they have known so soon that the transaction took place 15 minutes after you left? unless they had already checked the security tape and found out it was not you who had withdrawn the money (they might think you had an accomplice)why should it take 6 to 8 weeks?

You need to find out exactly how the money was withdrawn - was it by cheque, card or just by filling in a withdrawal slip at the counter?

Chances are everything done on the screen is logged. They'd know what time the OP came in to collect the statement (assuming the cashier had access account details to verify OP's identity) and the time of the withdrawal.

There are a few different ways I can think of that could have led to the money leaving your account, but they all involve a member of staff doing something wrong. Don't be fobbed off with 6-8 weeks, go down to the branch and speak to the manager/someone senior. They should be able to check the signature on the withdrawal slip and the ID they'd seen.
