Barclaycard OnePulse or Platinum

Hello

I am already a barclaycard platinum holder. Barclaycard have sent me a letter saying that they are upgrading me to the new OnePulse card. But I have a choice of not to.

Can someone advise if its good to move or stay on the card I am on. I already do have an oyster card.

Thanks

  • Isn't the Platinum one supposed to be the most "prestigious" Barclaycard? How can you upgrade to One Pulse then?
I suggest that you check whether any benefits associated with your Platinum Card,
(cash back, low APR) would apply to the One Pulse as well. If that's the case maybe switching is not a bad idea as you wouldn't need to carry an extra card(oyster). There is also the cashless feature but very few retailers accept it although this might change in the near future.
Another idea would be to keep the Platinum and replace your Oyster with the One Pulse. You never have to use the credit facility if you don't want to and holding an extra credit card doesn't hurt.
Some people are worried about the safety of the contact-less feature as your details can be read without the need to enter your pin as long as a card reader is close enough to your card 5-10 cm. So a crook armed with a contact-less reader could steal your details. Even if that were the case he probably wouldn't obtain your pin that way. I wouldn't worry too much but then again I would rather not have a very high limit on the one pulse.

I was sent a letter to upgrade to the Simplicity Card with an APR of just 6.8% for life on all purchases and balance transfers.

That will be a variable rate not for life.

    Barclaycard Simplicity Credit Card
    • A low rate for life - 6.8% APR typical (variable)
    • Applies to every purchase and/or balance transfer you make
It is variable initally, then whatever it is set at is "for life".
