Will my CC's cover any loss while items are in transit?

Hi,
I am due to send my collection of deactivated fireams and inert ammunition from the UK to Italy and I need to have them insured for approx £6000. If I pay the shipper with one of my cards will the shipment be covered for the approx value of £6000 while it is going 'door to door' for loss and damage, partial or whole?
I have in my possesion cards from Egg, Capital One and Halifax. I have spoken to Egg and they seem to say 'yes, no problem'.
I don't have receipts for any of the items and all I can go on is the current market value of the items.
Basically, will it work and how do I cover all my bases without getting stiffed if something goes wrong?
Cheers.
