Expired Goldfish points

Having received a statement of account from Goldfish, I was happy to see I had more than 14,000 points. I phone up a month after the statement date (it took a good two weeks to get to me thanks to the post) only to be told all the points have expired. No mention was made on the statement that they were about to expire, or I'd have made it a priority to redeem them. Anyone else had any luck getting these points back. It seems rather mean to send me a statement, and then take them away with no warning. OK, I'm sure I should know they have a 3-yr expiry, but I do have a life and don;t keep a check on when I gained my points!
