    No.

You can stay with TalkTalk and, once registered, can use the 18866 prefix as well.

I assume you benefit from free evening and weekend UK calls (to '01' and '02' numbers) on Talk Talk - the 18866 prefix would cut the cost of your daytime UK calls to 1p each.

Pardon my ignorance but what do you mean by 01 and 02 numbers?.
So as I understand it I need to do nothing with talk talk and just register with 18866.Will I still recieve a bill from talk talk.
    Cheers
[tt]Although wallbanger1218 deleted the above-quoted post, I'll leave the below because it may be of help to someone else.[/tt]

01 & 02 are the first two digits of the STD codes for UK geographical telephone numbers.

Any other digits (normally) indicate a more costly call - they're generally known as  Specialised Numbers - such as 07 mobile or personal numbers, 08 so-called 'lowcall' and 'national rate' (a blatant lie nowadays) numbers, 09 premium rate numbers.

    Thanks for the info.
If I registered with 18866 an used the prefix I would'nt incur call charges from talk talk.Is that correct?
    Thanks again

    Correct.

Just as prefixing a call with 1280 would over-ride your TalkTalk CPS and the call would go out on BT (and BT would charge you), using the 18866 prefix will over-ride your TalkTalk CPS and send the call out on 18866 (and they will charge you, not TalkTalk).

Wallbanger. If it is any help, I dial 18866 +std etc Mon-Fri 8am-6pm and after 6pm, simply drop the 18866. That is when the talktalk system kicks in.

Just in case you are wondering what happens if someone forgets to dial the prefix 18866 during the day, well talktalk will bill you for that call, but don't worry, it is still cheaper than BT.

Thanks for the info. So talk talk is free after 6pm during the week and all weekend.Am i right in assuming that's correct?
We call family in the States on a weekly basis.Would 18866 be the cheaper option here. Its only 2p a minute isn't it?
    Cheers mate.

    Yes Wallbanger, correct.

Talktalk calls to all UK landlines are free after 6pm Mon-Fri and all weekend too. As for your calls to the US, yes 18866, (2p per min at all times) is currently cheaper than Talktalk (5p per min at all times).

Use 18866's sister co. 1899 for the US (0.5p) - again the same procedure to use as 18866 (sign up online/ then preface the number with 1899).
