Samsung ML1520 Laser printer Refill opinions

hi, just wanted advice from people who own the Samsung 1520 laser printer.
does the drum of the printer have a life?.
Someone told me:
After several thousand copies (as I said originally this can be between 10,000 and say 35,000) the drum will deteriate i.e. will no longer attract the toner powder or get scratched, and will need to be replaced, So the cost of a replacement drum will typically cost £60/£70
others say this is not true and they last much much longer and do not need to be replaced, this is the only thing that is holding me back from purchasing this printer!.

And also one last thing, I own a canon inkjet and I use compatible cartridges however sometimes I get lines going across the prints, do you get good quality prints even when using refilled toner?

Any help much appreciated! :)

Unless you are doing an awful lot of printing 10-30,000 copies will last you a very long time, probably longer than the life of the printer. If you are going to use this amount in less than 5 years you are choosing the wrong printer, go for one with a longer drum life like a kyocera. As with all printers they charge more for the spares than the printer costs to replace. Even new ink cartridges cost nearly as much as the printer, luckily they can be refilled http://www.refilltoner.com/index.htm for less than a quarter of the price.

yeah your right, even if I get 5 yrs life out of it it'll probably still end up saving me money.
ok one last thing before I go ahead and buy the printer, do the toner refills produce the same quality printouts as the original toner that comes with the printer (inkjet refills are always dissapointing), and also is the above website the best place to buy the toner.

    Thanks again :)

I have a previous model ML 1510 and it takes a refill of 95 grams of the magical black powder, you can get refills for a tenner on the net, you can either use a screwdriver to get the cap out of the end or unscrew the top and give all the bubbins a clean up/hoover out. Just google the Name and model number - lots of refill sites out there.

Drums do have a definite life. The actual life span is dependant on usage. I've had my Brother HL1250 for several years (2001?) and I normally go through a 6000 page toner in a year. The drum is supposed to last 20,000 pages but it has done more (unfortunately the page counter tool only works under 9x) and is only just coming up for replacement (drum light is on but still prints okay).

I wouldn't worry about it. There is probably remanufactured ones or third party drums already available or there certainly will be by the time you need to replace it. With the designs of these Samsung Laser's I would expect new feed rollers to be required before the drum needs replacing.

If you are going to be printing 1000's of pages per month I would recommend a Kyocera, as Peter the Piper recommended; they are built like tanks and are designed for heavy print runs.

I reckon I would probably only do about 600 pages annually at most so should last a long time, the site peter the piper recomended also looks pretty good so will probably buy a starter pack from them at a later date, just going to try and research whos toner is best now!, theres consumable cafe or https://www.refilltoner.com however probably dont refill for quite a while yet! (going to pickup printer tomorow).

    Thanks for the help everyone
