83 year old needs travel insurance

The issue I need help with please has been in previous posts but provisions are always changing and much of it is quickly out of date.

I have an 83 years old man with a heart condition who needs travel insurance, preferably annual. He has never made a claim in his life and has been with American Express for years who have now said they are no longer insuring anyone over 80.

Help The Aged have no upper age limit. But it is VERY important that you let the insurer know your medical history, as any claim will subsequently be refused and medical claims can run into thousands of pounds, regardless of whether you have or have not ever made a claim in the past.

We tried Help the Aged a couple of years ago, both aged 60, both minor heart complaints. they refused to insure us !

Went to Saga, had to make a claim - around $30,000 US, we estimate (not related to existing complaints). They were first class, paid everything, no problems. Have stayed with them since, they don't seem to load us for the one claim !

The Co-Operative bank provides free travel insurance with anyone with a privilege account with no upper age limit. Whilst it costs £8.50 a month for the account there are a number of benefits and my father who has now passed away had the account just for that reason because of the problems of getting travel insurance.

It is worth a phone call before opening the account just to check he would be covered.

I got Mums 85 with Fortress booked through British Mountaineering Club couldnt get year but not bad price for single ,had to join up to BMC to get a cheap price but I rang Fortress first to check if they would take her ,we were travelling to Florida and a cruise both times,worth looking in to.
