I cannot get any sound out of my computer following a crash and re-install of XP. In the System Information you click on Sound Device and there is nothing there, can someone please tell me how I get a Sound Device.

Use Start -> Run -> winmsd
Expand +Components and then select Problem Devices
You will then see all the devices that are not installed correctly.
Each will have an identity string similar to "PCI\VEN_nnnn&DEV_xxxx"
nnnn is the VENdor code and xxxx is the DEVice code.
Now use the following for info. http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids
It's for linux users, but Vendor & Device codes are just as valid.
Then use Google to search for drivers from appropriate vendor.

Its one my computer man made up for me and I cannot find what sound card is on it.0

Open the side, take the card out.
You can then see what make it is. Re-seating it also might make the OS recognise it again. If you have a spare slot try it in there
If not it could be blown and need replacingIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
Go to this site http://www.gtopala.com/ and download the free version.
Hopefully, it will detect your sound device.

Flying Windows key + Pause Break key; Hardware - Device Manager..... Any yellow question marks visible?
If so, double click on the entry, select Driver(if available) and Update/Install Driver (if available) and allow Windows Update to connect to the Internet in order to search for the driver.
If that fails, you can use this: Unknown Device Identifier0
