Personalised Reg and Contract Hire/PCP

Would I be right in assuming that I wouldn't be able to transfer my reg to a contract hire vehicle, but I would if I were to buy via PCP?

you could transfer your reg plate to a contract hire/lease vehicle but then you would be giving the rights of the plate to the hire/lease company. So technically they can withhold it from you when you return the car. It is also involves a bit of faffing with the paperwork before and after.
If you do put it on hire/lease car then when they come to take it off at whichever point, if the put it on a retention certificate rather than straight onto another car then the plate will remain in their name (as grantee) and you would be the nominee. The nominee has no rights to the plate until it is assigned to a vehicle in their name. Also if it is on a retention cert for more than a year then it needs to be renewed (£25) and if they don;t do it then the plate could be lost forever!
