Is this possible??

Hi just wondered if anyone could help me with advice?
Basically I live in a council flat that i was offered after on the verge of me and my 12 year old daughter being put in B&B
I was and still am very gratefull, BUT this flat is in the next town (15 miles)
where my family live, friends, where i work and most importantly my daughter goes to secondary school.

I work school hours 9-3, im a single mum, as all people know money is tight,
i can just cope with the 30 mile round trips each day, but means thats it, i cant go back to my home town any other time.
Basiaclly me and my daughter come home and thats it, no family, no friends and my daughter very lonely with just me, and me lonely, were not in the catchment area for her school, so none of her mates here
So she just doesnt see any one, and i cant afford to drive home and then drive back to pick her up from friends, i just want her to do normal things like walk to school with her school mates, hang out with them, call for them.
You wouldnt think those little things are important but they are.
Changing schools is NOT a option, shes been througfh too much already.

Ive tried for the last year to do a council exchange/swop, on all lists, but no one wants a flat, and not in the area i live!!!
i need to get out of here for my sake and daughters!!

So is it possible i can go back to council and say i want to rent through private landlord, will council help me with deposit? i know I will get housing benifit, is this possible, I know I pay more rent, but i will save alot on fuel and most importantly my daughter will do normal childhood mate things and i'll have a life too.
Any advice would be brill, thanks xx

worth inquiring, they may be very grateful for you to give up a council property. Do check it is the right thing for you. Chances are your initial tennacy will be for only 12 months so you run the risk of moving every year! Not sure what your position would be if you needed council housing in the future, I imagine you would be at the end of a very long list.
